SolarWinds Starter Kit: Two Must-Have Tools for Every Network Engineer

LANsurveyor Feature » Auto-detect Changes to Network Topology

  • Detect new devices and changes to network topology
  • Alert IT personnel in case of an intrusion
  • Document network changes for regulatory compliance

LANsurveyor's unique continuous scan feature monitors the network for new devices, changes and unknown systems. Changes are immediately reflected in your network diagram, ensuring that you always have an accurate, up-to-date record of your network topology. When unknown and rogue systems are identified, LANsurveyor alerts IT personnel and/or third-party software applications that a change has been detected and optionally disables network access for the device.

Network Topology Archives for Regulatory Compliance
LANsurveyor's continuous scan feature is also ideal for creating archives of your network topology as it changes over time, allowing you to automatically maintain documentation for regulatory and troubleshooting purposes. After generating a baseline network topology diagram, LANsurveyor can automatically save snapshots of the most current network topology using date-stamped files that are saved in either LANsurveyor native format or Visio format (or both).

Switch Port Connectivity
LANsurveyor continuously updates your network topology map down to the switch port. LANsurveyor accesses managed switches and hubs to accurately diagram port connectivity, resulting in a network topology map that illustrates all nodes connected directly to a managed switch or hub.

Detect and Block Unknown Network Nodes
When LANsurveyor identifies unknown or rogue systems on the network, the application can actively disable their network access and send alerts to you or to third-party software applications that a change has been detected.
