These release notes provide additional guidance for SolarWinds Orion Enterprise Operations Console v1.0.

Configuring Virtual Directories

The Configuration Wizard lets you set up the Orion EOC web console as a virtual directory of an existing web site, but does not check to see if the web site is running. If you set up the web console as a virtual directory of a stopped web site, the Configuration Wizard fails with an error. To avoid this problem, make sure the web site you choose for your virtual directory is running.

UTC Server Time Synchronization

The Orion NPM UTC server time must be within five minutes of the Orion EOC UTC server time. If the time discrepancy is greater than five minutes, Orion EOC cannot establish secure connections to the Orion NPM server. If you receive an invalid credential error even though you are sure the credentials are correct, please check the UTC server time of both servers.

Troubleshooting

A database initialization string error occurred during the Configuration Wizard.

Passwords containing special characters can sometimes cause an error during completion of the Orion EOC Configuration Wizard. If an error containing the following text occurs:

"Format of the initialization string does not conform to specification starting at index 86"

confirm that there are no special characters in the password used to gain access to your database.

Database is not listed in Configuration Wizard.

During the database section of the Configuration Wizard, it is possible that the browse function of the wizard will not find your database. If you experience difficulty browsing to your SQL Express instance, type ServerName\sqlexpress in the SQL Server field on the Login to SQL Server dialog, where ServerName is the pre-Windows 2000 name of your SQL Server.

Map resources are displaying script errors instead of the desired map.

Orion EOC users must have read and execute permissions to the bin\MapMaker folder in the Orion EOC program folder. If these permissions are not granted, Map Maker maps do not appear in the map resource. To save you time during set up, we suggest you grant these permissions to all authenticated users.

Adding an Orion NPM server fails.

If you receive the message "Failed test. Cannot connect to a SolarWinds Orion Information Service. You may have mistyped the Orion NPM server address or the SOIS may not be running." when adding an Orion NPM server to Orion EOC, the following steps can help you troubleshoot and fix the problem:

Verify that the SolarWinds Orion Information Services is running on the Orion NPM server.
Verify that a firewall on the NPM Windows machine is not blocking incoming data on port 17777.
Verify that a firewall on the EOC Windows machine is not preventing EOC from opening port 17777 for communication.
Check the Application log on the Orion NPM server (use Windows Event Viewer) for any .Net-related errors. The following third-party security applications are known to interfere with Orion products:
- Wave Systems EMBASSY Trust Suite. On DELL machines the EMBASSY suite is installed and is known to cause the .Net TCP Port Sharing service to crash. If this is the problem, try installing the .NET hotfix from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923028. If this does not resolve this issue, uninstall the Wave Systems EMBASSY Trust Suite software.

Open Issues in this Release

This release of Orion EOC includes the following open issues:

Menu bars with the "Open in new window" option enabled are opened in the same window.
If the data for a call path has not been collected, the corresponding call path entry in the Global VoIP Call Path resource appears empty. Please wait a few minutes for data to be collected.
The Error and Warnings threshold page only accepts decimal values if the Windows Regional and Language Options setting of the Orion EOC Server uses the period '.' as a decimal symbol. If the region uses a comma ',' as a decimal symbol, you cannot enter decimal values even if you format the decimal value using a period '.'.
VoIP call paths display invalid Quality of Service values if the source site or the destination site are down
If a domain user and a local user share the same user name, both users can be added as Orion EOC users, but no data appears in either user's web console.
Users are not advised to contact the administrator if the administrator has not permitted them to see data from any Orion NPM servers.
The Events view shows all event data even if the user has account limitations restricting this view.
Duplicate custom properties appear if custom properties from different Orion NPM servers have identical names but different value types.
Deleting a menu bar that contains an apostrophe symbol in the name crashes the web console.
The Copy View command does not work if the view name contains an asterisk '*' or a slash '/' symbol.
It is possible to enter invalid SQL statements into a resource filter if the resource has 'Group By' settings. The error message 'Can't initialize resource' appears if you enter an invalid SQL statement, and if you do not correct the invalid SQL before returning to the view, a page exception occurs.
If the MOS value of a VoIP call path is a null value, all of the resource nodes appear down.
If you configure the web console as a virtual directory of a web site that has been stopped, the configuration wizard fails.
Changes to column layouts are propagated to all user views even if the Reset view for all users option is not checked.
Applications in the Global Top XX resources cannot be grouped by node.
The hypertext links are invalid for events triggered from devices that do not exist in the Orion NPM database.
The map links to Orion NPM servers are invalid if you do not prefix the Orion NPM web site URL with http:// when you add Orion NPM servers to Orion EOC.
When you acknowledge an alert, the acknowledged time is incorrect until the next polling cycle.
